ydrogen Alpha Sun
Solar Activity
October 2024 to January 2025

The hydrogen-alpha section of our Sun above is a composite of over 40 solar images
captured between October 2024 and January 2025.

On October 15, 2024, representatives from NASA, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Agency (NOAA),
and the Solar Cycle Prediction Panel announced the Sun had commenced
its solar maximum period in the Sun’s current 11-year activity cycle (Cycle 25)

Solar cycle 1 commenced in 1755 and was the first solar cycle to be accurately recorded.

The many prominences that were visible around the Sun’s limb are shown in this single image.
The Sun's surface is shown as a negative image showing numerous
bright flares as dark features against the granular solar surface.
